This place makes the hairs on your neck stand to attention.

Well this place would move the most sedate and boring of people to raise their hands and cheer as it truely is the most inspiring location on planet earth in many visitors minds.

The Canyon in basic terms is just a very colourful and very deep gorge which has been carved out over the last few million years by the Colorado river.

It is locted in the Grand Canyon National park in the state of Arizona and is 277 miles long or 446 kilometres long if you prefer.

The width of the canyon ranges from 0.25 miles wide at places up to 15 miles wide in other spots. 24 kilometres if you wish to measure in the modern way.

The Grand Canyon attracts approximately Five million visitors each year and a number of those visits end in peril.

In fact there have been over 600 deaths in the canyon since the 1870's by falling,drowning and plane crashes.

The most famous plane crash happened in 1956 and sadly caused the death of 128 passengers.

On the 30th June 1956 United airlines flight 718 and TWA flight 2 crashed over the canyon and resulted in some major national air control changes in the U.S.A.

Planes used the canyon as a sight seeing location which meant that they would deviate off normal flight plans with permission of course but this day went horribily wrong and is still sadly remembered by the people that the tradgedy touched .

Put simply I have only felt more excited twice in life then when I stood on the rim of the Grand Canyon and looked at this amazing kaleidoscope of colours and on both occassions it involved my gorgeous wife and the birth of our Two beautiful children.
