The Most Romantic Building In The World?

Now this is really living.

On top of the Eiffel tower looking out across the city of Paris is a little like being in a movie and it just does'nt quite seem real .If you have stood on the edge of the tower and gazed out over the gorgeous Paris skyline and it's bustling streets and crazy roundabouts you will know exactly what I mean but if not let me tell you a little about this amazing structure.

The Eiffel tower was constructed between 1887 and 1889 and it was named after the engineer that built the tower Mr Gustave Eiffel of the Gustave Eiffel company strangely enough.

The structure stands at 1,063 feet tall and was built with no other purpose in mind but to be an observation deck.It is built almost entirely of Iron.

When construction was completed in 1889 the Eiffel tower became the tallest tower in the world eclipsing the Washington monument at the time.

The tower is the tallest buiding in Paris to this day and between 1889 and 1930 it was the tallest building in the world until Chryslers building in NewYork city was completed as it stands 1096.58 feet tall.

The tower weighs 7,300 tonnes and can actually sway 6-7 cm on a windy day.

For the record I experienced that the night I went to the top of the Eiffel tower.

The river Seine runs alongside the Eiffel tower and makes for a beautiful neighbour for the incredible number of visitors to look at each year.

The most visited tourist attraction of all of the worlds landmarks is the Eiffel Tower.

In 1902 the tower was struck by lightning and needed to have the top hundred metres of rooftop reconstructed.

Famous movies to film at the tower include Superman 2 and in 1985 James Bonds A view to a kill featured the tower heavily.

I was a backpacker when I visited the tower but I do plan to go again soon and this time I would love to dine at the Jules Verne which is the towers signature restaurant which has since January 2007 has had the famous Chef Alain Ducasse in residence. The restaurant has a private lift is on the Second floor and is extremely exclusive.
